This map shows the property ownership of Stark Mountain. The Mad River Glen Cooperative owns the ski area, shown in yellow. The landowners abutting the Cooperative include The State of Vermont, the US Forest Service, and the Mad River Corporation (former owner of the ski area). Land in public ownership is effectively protected from further development, although it should be noted that Mt Ellen (Sugarbush) ski area, on US Forest Service land, lies to the south just off the map.
The Foundation supports efforts to acquire additional lands contiguous to the ski area to preserve and protect the ecosystem and skiing experiences of Stark Mountain, and further opportunities for environmental education programs.
